Boys Will Be Boys: Male Socialization & The Family Planning Clinic

This workshop will be both academic and practical with a focus on behavior change and developing approaches and counseling in difficult situations.

Reaching and working with boys and young men
seem like such good ideas…but when individuals
and programs try to reach out to young men,
resistance and lack of interest seem to be the
primary responses.

Through lecture, discussion,
film and group activities, this highly interactive
workshop will give participants the opportunity to
identify some of the reasons for this resistance.

Program Topics & Objectives

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

• Discuss male socialization and the conflicting
  messages men receive about “masculinity,”
  “involvement,” and “responsibility.”
• Describe adolescent male development and
  relate this to issues in the service delivery
  arena.
• Explain the impact of media images on male
  attitudes, behaviors, body image and
  relationships.
• Explain the most essential information males
  need to know about condom use.
• Develop a plan for helping young men
  communicate and make decisions about a
  variety of difficult sexual/relationship
  problems.
• Identify factors that contribute to and support
  behavior change and relate these to their work
  with males.

To register for this workshop, complete the Registration Form and mail or fax it to our office postmarked no later than February 19, 2009.

Payment must be received by the first day of training.

We understand that some agency systems take longer than others to process checks. If you know you have approval to pay for the course, feel free to fax the registration form to our office, indicating that a check will follow or will be brought to registration on the first day of training.

Continuing Education

There is an additional $15.00 administration fee, per certificate, payable on site.

Nursing

Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider #CEP 12241, for 7.2 contact hours. 

Health Education

The California Family Health Council is designated as a provider of Category I continuing education contact hours in health education by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. Health educators attending this program may report up to 6.0 contact hours.
